You can cut the stone with a really big diamond bladed saw maybe. Next we added a piece of wall moulding to the bottom of the board using a brad nailer. Initially i didn t and still really loved how it looked. An optional 6th step is to add crown molding to the top of the woodwork.

You still might want to make sure it s not a fire hazard. Paint and finish your fireplace molding with whatever color or theme you want. But the brick was done so well that i felt it deserved the senior status of the two decorating items and so i dissolved the crown molding through it. Use the caulk gun to fill in the gaps and put some putty over the screw heads.

This is the part that hangs outside the mantel about an inch or so but after it s all done i don t mind it.

This should provide a finishing touch that covers the space between the molding and the wall.
